The Engineering Department at Open Learning is looking for a full time Application Engineer to join a fast growing team with big ambitions to redefine the use of technology in teaching and learning at MIT and beyond. In this role, you will work closely with the Engineering leadership to provide high-quality technical expertise and support to our strategic,  internal partners, including xPro, MicroMasters, and OCW.

  • Maintain expert level knowledge of our flagship products and applications and articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users
  • Understand and communicate the project’s requirements to software engineers, update key stakeholders and users on product development progress
  • Oversee and contribute to operational workflows involving marketing, B2B sales, customer service and financial systems
  • Collaborate with the directors of engineering on developing and maintaining product roadmaps that benefits the goals of our internal partners and end users
  • Meet with our customers, demo our products, and give them technical insights of the product
  • Communicate design and feature requests to the product team and manage progress tracking through development into deployment
  • With the Associate Director of Engineering, run agile meetings such as team stand-ups, planning and retrospectives, and agile workflows
  • Provide tier 2 technical support as needed, develop and deploy quality control standards for our products
  • Contribute to design reviews and code reviews
  • Occasionally write code in Python and/or other languages as necessary

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • B.S. or higher in Computer Science or related technical field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Solid understanding of the full web technology stack
  • Experience in at least one programming language:  Python, Javascript, Ruby, Java, PHP
  • At least 7 years of experience with product development and/or management
  • Comfort with ambiguity

Desired

  • Experience in Software Development Life Cycle and iterative methodologies
  • Aptitude and desire to be a "hands on" contributor
  • Ecommerce experience
