Data usually has problems: It’s expensive to collect, it’s often rife with privacy issues or biases, and it could be missing key components. Even so, we need large amounts of data to power artificial intelligence. These challenges have led MIT researchers like Ali Jahanian to explore low-cost alternatives like synthetic data, sophisticated models that can generate realistic looking data (including images) based on real data. Jahanian will join MIT Horizon to explain synthetic data and its many uses, including self-training AI, protecting privacy, and making simulations. After the talk, he will take questions from the audience.
