2023 Awards

In 2023, students submitted 167 nominations. The 7 winners of the 2023 Teaching with Digital Technology Awards are:

2022 Awards

In 2022, students submitted 207 nominations. The 15 winners of the 2022 Teaching with Digital Technology Award are: 

The winners were honored in a May 24th celebration and their awards are highlighted in videos and in this MIT Open Learning article.

2021 Awards

This year 230 nominations were submitted for 104 unique instructors. Faculty and instructors were nominated for excellence in digital teaching for both fully online classes as well as those which were a hybrid of online and in person.

2020 Awards

As a result of the pandemic and in honor of the dedication of MIT faculty to the challenges of remote education, a second call for student nominations was made expressly for excellence in remote teaching.  

From the original call, 157 nominations were submitted for 98 unique instructors. From the remote call, 330 nominations were submitted for 163 unique instructors, with many instructors nominated for both awards. In total, 487 student nominations were submitted for 232 unique instructors.

2019 Awards

158 nominations were received for 117 different faculty members & instructors. The winners, chosen by a committee of undergraduate and graduate students plus Dean Krishna Rajagopal and Vice Chancellor Ian Waitz, are:

• Amy Carleton, Comparative Media Studies & Writing 
• John Belcher, Physics
• Jared Curhan, Sloan School of Management

2018 Awards

99 nominations were received for 58 different faculty members & instructors. The winners, chosen by a committee of 5 undergraduate & graduate students plus Dean Krishna Rajagopal, and Vice Chancellor Ian Waitz, are:

2017 Awards

133 nominations were received for 80 different faculty members & instructors. The winners, chosen by a committee of 5 undergraduate & graduate students plus Dean Dennis Freeman, Dean Blanche Staton, and VP Sanjay Sarma, are:

• Michael Scott Cuthbert, Music
• Tracy Robyn Slatyer, Physics

Winners were honored at a June 6 luncheon and their teaching stories are highlighted in this video:

The TWDTA Luncheon and Awards Ceremony celebrated the achievements of Physics professor Tracy Slatyer who received an award. The SDM team, Oliver de Weck, Bryan Moser, Bruce Cameron, and Edward Crawley, also received an award. 

The third winner of this year's award was music professor Matthew Scott Cuthbert. Director of Residential Education at ODL Sheryl Barnes presided over the event.
