Andria Zafirakou, winner of the Global Teacher Prize 2018, fights on a daily basis to ensure that some of the poorest children in England can experience the beauty and transformative power of the arts. She is an arts teacher from Alperton Community School in London, one of the most ethnically diverse places in the United Kingdom, with 130 languages spoken in its schools. In an era when funding and accountability pressures threaten arts education in many schools, access to arts education is becoming yet another factor dividing the more privileged from the less. Join Zafirakou as she sets out why the arts are so important, and what can be done to ensure they are accessible to all.
