By quickening the pace of data processing, edge computing opens up new possibilities in a wide range of industries, from automotive companies being able to predict when vehicles require maintenance to more efficiently run smart homes. In this MIT Horizon webinar, Wayne State University professor Weisong Shi, who is considered a leader in edge computing research, will share his views on the future of edge computing, a topic he covered in a popular 2016 paper, “Edge Computing: Vision and Challenges.” He will talk about how it’s been deployed so far, including popular and lesser known applications, and its likely impacts going forward.
