In this hour-long webinar John Hart, Professor of Mechanical Engineering & Director of the Laboratory for Manufacturing and Productivity, will address the economics of additive manufacturing (AM), and in particular will explain how successful adoption balances the cost of production with value-added operational and performance considerations.

Professor Hart will introduce an approach to estimate the cost of components produced by AM, and will discuss key considerations including materials, machine productivity, and post-processing. He will present selected examples of cost-value analysis, from industry and from MIT’s AM coursework, and will highlight new research in data-driven analysis of cost-design-quality tradeoffs.
