Generative AI in Teaching: Faculty Learning Community
Fostering instructional innovation by bringing MIT instructors together re: GAI in their teaching
The Generative AI in Teaching FLC will bring MIT faculty and instructors together to explore GAI in their teaching and make tangible improvements in their subjects. Through discussions, presentations, and hands-on work, participants will move forward on effectively and thoughtfully integrating GAI to enrich teaching and learning in their subject(s).
The group is open to all MIT faculty and instructors, whether just beginning to think about GAI in teaching or already actively using GAI in the classroom and looking to further advance innovations.
Expectations:
- The group will meet once a month for an hour from November through May (except Jan).
- Meetings will be in person with a remote option as a backup.
- Meetings will include brief presentations from other members followed by discussion to share knowledge, tips, questions, and concerns related to using GAI in MIT subjects.
- The Faculty Director for this FLC is Chris Capozzola, Senior Associate Dean for Open Learning and Professor of History, who, along with staff from Open Learning and TLL will provide guidance and additional resources as needed.
- Participants are asked to commit to attend all scheduled meetings.
- A $1,000 stipend is available for participants who attend the meetings and later share with their department or the broader MIT community how they have used GAI in their subject(s). Open Learning can provide logistical support for these presentations.
- Send questions or comments to gai-in-teaching-flc@mit.edu.
- Deadline to sign up: October 27, 2024
