Four New Institutions in the U.S., Canada, Lebanon, and Uruguay Offer Pathways to Master’s Degrees for MITx MicroMasters® Program Credential Holders
The MITx MicroMasters program provides online learners across the globe with the opportunity to pursue an accelerated path to a master’s degree by completing a series of online courses and one or more proctored exams in the program of their choice. Currently, learners can complete one of four programs: Data, Economics, and Development Policy, Principles of Manufacturing, Statistics and Data Science, and Supply Chain Management. Once they have completed their chosen program, MicroMasters program credential holders can apply to a corresponding master’s program at MIT or other participating institutions.
As of early March 2019, the MITx MicroMasters program offers 79 pathways from 25 schools in 17 countries. The MITx MicroMasters program team recently announced that their learners are now eligible to apply their credential at four new pathway institutions: Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS), Royal Roads University (RRU), and Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC).
Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (Lebanon)
The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik is a private Catholic university in Mount Lebanon, founded in 1938 by the Lebanese Maronite Order. USEK is multilingual by tradition, and has twelve faculties and three institutes employing 900 teachers and researchers. Learners who have completed the Principles of Manufacturing MicroMasters program can now apply to USEK’s Master of Science in Industrial Process Engineering program. USEK now also offers five separate master’s programs available to learners from the Statistics and Data Science MicroMasters program.
Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (United States)
For nearly 200 years, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) has been educating future healthcare leaders. Its singular focus on healthcare and broad portfolio of undergraduate and graduate healthcare programs uniquely positions it to provide an innovative, interprofessional collaborative education that better prepares students to join the integrative team-based care models of today’s healthcare system. Deep-rooted relationships with prestigious medical and research institutions in Boston’s Longwood Medical Area, across New England and around the globe enable students to gain the most effective clinical and non-clinical experiences available. MCPHS offers a pathway for Statistics and Data Science MicroMasters program learners into its MBA in Healthcare Management.
Royal Roads University (Canada)
Royal Roads University is a Canadian public university established in 1995, which delivers applied and professional programs through a blended learning experience that combines online and on-campus instruction, as well as full time intensive on-campus instruction. RRU offers a pathway for learners from the Data, Economics, and Development Policy, Statistics and Data Science, Principles of Manufacturing, or Supply Chain Management MicroMasters programs in their Masters of Business Administration in Executive Management program.
Universidad Tecnólogica (Uruguay)
UTEC’s Program in Data Science in Uruguay is led by the CoLAB initiative (UTEC and Plan Ceibal) with input from MIT Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab (MIT J-WEL). The program will use MITxMicroMasters Program in Statistics and Data Science to promote top talent from Latin America with skills in data science, statistics, machine learning and entrepreneurship and to promote Uruguay as a hub for start-ups and entrepreneurship throughout Latin America.
Krishna Rajagopal, dean for digital learning at MIT, remarked, “We are very pleased to welcome these universities, which are offering recipients of the MITx MicroMasters credential new pathways by which to accelerate their pursuit of a master’s degree. We are thankful to MCPHS, Royal Roads University, Holy Spirit University and Universidad Technólogica for the accessible educational opportunities they are creating for learners around the globe.”
