QS World University Rankings has placed MIT in the №1 spot in 11 subject areas for 2023: Chemical Engineering; Civil and Structural Engineering; Computer Science and Information Systems; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Linguistics; Materials Science; Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing Engineering; Mathematics; Physics and Astronomy; and Statistics and Operational Research.

MIT also placed second in five subject areas: Accounting and Finance; Architecture/Built Environment; Biological Sciences; Chemistry; and Economics and Econometrics.

For 2023, Quacquarelli Symonds Limited evaluated universities in 54 specific subjects and five broader subject areas. MIT has been ranked as the №1 university in the world by QS World University Rankings for 11 straight years.
