Position Overview:

The Director of Marketing is responsible for developing and implementing MIT Open Learning’s B2C, B2B, and Institutional marketing strategies in order to drive brand growth, customer engagement, and revenue across both consumer and business segments. The Director of Marketing will oversee a team of high-performing marketers across digital, content, product marketing, and demand generation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Strategic Leadership:

    • Develop and execute integrated marketing strategies across B2C, B2B, and Institutional channels.

    • Collaborate with senior leadership to align marketing efforts with overall business goals.

    • Own the marketing roadmap and calendar, balancing long-term strategy with short-term priorities.

    • Leverage marketing AI tools to enhance efficiency, personalization, customer engagement, decision-making, and predictive analytics

  • Team Management:

    • Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of marketing professionals.

    • Establish clear goals, KPIs, and performance metrics.

    • Foster a collaborative and data-driven culture of creativity and accountability.

  • B2C Marketing:

    • Oversee market research, customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and pricing strategies.

    • Drive brand awareness and lifecycle marketing.

    • Leverage customer insights to optimize user experience, messaging, and new product development.

  • B2B Marketing:

    • Develop lead generation strategies targeting mid-market and enterprise clients.

    • Partner with sales leadership to drive pipeline growth and conversion.

    • Oversee brand positioning by developing thought leadership pieces (white papers, research reports, blogs), securing speaking engagement at high-profile conferences, sponsoring trade shows, and working the PR and awards circuits

  • Institutional Marketing:

    • Promote MIT Open Learning’s image and reputation by building a strong brand identity and positive public perception. 

    • Oversee the marketing strategy to promote awareness around initiatives and areas of interest that reflect the institution’s mission and influence.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Work closely with Open Learning senior leadership to align messaging and deliver cohesive experiences.

    • Manage and optimize the marketing technology stack and ensure data-driven decision making.

  • Operations:

    • Manage the marketing budget across channels and programs.

    • Analyze performance metrics to optimize campaigns and report on ROI to stakeholders

    • Develop and lead plans to expand and scale marketing through automation and effective use of CRM.

    • Establish and manage strategic relationships, negotiate contracts, and facilitate service level agreements with vendors and agencies as needed.

    • Prepare and present reports for Open Learning leadership to communicate results and impact of current marketing campaigns, revenue goals, and high-level strategy.

Reports to TC Haldi, Open Learning Workforce Learning, with dotted to Dimitris Bertsimas

Supervision Exercised:

Manages team of 6-8 employees and ad hoc contractors/freelancers

Qualifications & Skills: 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 7+ years of progressive marketing experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of creating and executing successful B2C, B2B, and Institutional marketing strategies.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with comfort using data to inform decisions.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational abilities. 

  • Self-starter who operates successfully in a dynamic, sometimes ambiguous, complex, fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
  • Familiarity with tools such as HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Analytics, and performance marketing platforms.

  • Experience leveraging AI tools for marketing efforts a bonus

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • MBA or advanced degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field.
  • 10+ years’ experience, preferably in a high-growth environment
  • Experience with digital marketing tools and channels: Google Suite, Meta Suite, LinkedIn, Marketing automation tools, CRM, etc
  • Track record of forging productive relationships and aligning strategies in a complex environment

Other Considerations:

Salary range: $125,000 - $163,200 final salary determined by MIT’s compensation team based on the skills and experience of the person hired.

 

The Director of Marketing is required to work on campus in Cambridge, MA a minimum of 2 days/week through August 2025. In September, this may increase to 3 days/week.
