Position Overview:
The DIRECTOR, OPEN LEARNING VIDEO (“The Director”) directs the development of a wide range of multimedia content necessary for Open Learning units to meet their business goals, setting standards for production and overall quality of materials. Collaborating with the Director for MIT Video Productions (MVP), the Director will co-lead all video production, both internal and external to Open Learning in pursuit of cross-cutting strategic and visionary media leadership for Open Learning. The Director will be responsible for allocating employee, video, and financial resources to meet the needs of business units. In collaboration with business unit leads, the Director will develop operational plans and strategies that have significant impact across Open Learning, and will broadly and cohesively leverage video assets to advance Open Learning strategy in dialogue with internal and external stakeholders.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Provide vision and strategic direction for Open Learning online media and instructional innovation.
Responsible for allocating human and video resources of the group for the benefit of Open Learning production and to ensure that the needs of OL and other MIT stakeholders are met.
Establish, manage, and communicate priorities, strategy, and budget to ensure alignment across team of employees, managing and directing work through staff that manage the production of a variety of multimedia projects, such as MITx, OpenCourseWare, Universal Learning, and xPRO.
Lead and evaluate experiments and innovations with web- and media-based tools and emerging educational technologies.
Manage budget to ensure current and future needs are met, including equipment, production, infrastructure, and upgrades.
Partner with the co-heads of Open Education, Workforce Learning and the head of Universal Learning as well as the Vice Provost of Open Learning to advance overall strategy and set production standards to ensure overall quality of multimedia materials, leveraging relationships and knowledge of business needs to gain support of new ideas, proposals, and concepts.
Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure their content needs for open education and professional education are met.
Coordinate with cross-cutting Open Learning units such as Marketing, Engineering, Accessibility to advance OL goals.
Collaborate with Intellectual Property team and Office of General Counsel (if needed) to ensure rights to third-party content are secured.
Represent the Open Learning Video Team at Operational Management meetings and across MIT, presenting to audiences of all sizes regarding the goals and activities of this group, developing talking points, slide decks, and other collateral as needed.
Coordinate with other MIT stakeholders, such as MIT Audiovisual Services, MIT IS&T, and the Registrar, among others.

Supervision Received:
Reports to Dimitris Bertsimas, Vice Provost Open Learning.
Supervision Exercised:
Supervises up to 5 direct reports, some of whom are managers. Approximately 10 employees make up this group.
Qualifications & Skills:
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum 7 years of experience required creating, producing, editing, and packaging media content in a variety of formats.
Experience managing one or more direct reports required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
Experience managing large teams, including managers and downline employees preferred.
Experience maintaining and managing a budget preferred.
Broad and in-depth understanding of principles, theories, accessibility standards, and technical specifications of video production for digital learning preferred.
