John Harrold is an instructor and Digital Learning Lab fellow in the Department of Materials science and Engineering. He comes to the DMSE from a background of Chemistry, Biophysics, and materials development. His innovations focus on developing novel material for biointerface and deploying green chemistry practices for sustainable alternatives to current material synthetic processes. He develops and runs MOOCs for the DMSE including 3.012Tx Thermodynamics of Materials, 3.034x Organic and Biomaterials, and 3.091x Introduction to Solid State Chemistry. His research interests include best practices in digital education, ripple effects of MOOCs, and practical educational components of distributed learning. He holds a PhD in Biophysical Chemistry from Rutgers University.
